MS insurance rate for "Semi-Wind Resistive" construction
Some states recognize that building with quality construction materials vs. standard stick built greatly reduces the insurance risk. As such, the states have set the insurance rates to match the expected risk.
Subject to an engineer's signed report and following the MS requirments, we have confirmed that VOBB construction would qualify as a "Semi-Wind Resistive"classification in Mississippi. Some states use a classification called "fortified".
For Mississippi, the lower insurance rate is a savings of 65%. The rate for with a $500 deductible using regular masonry construction is 1.433 vs. a special dwellings with "Semi-Wind Resistive" classification is only 0.501 (per $100 of coverage).
Comparison for Mainland South of Interstate 10:
| Regular masonry construction rate | 1.433 |
per $100 of coverage |
|---|---|---|
| Semi Wind Resistive | 0.655 |
per $100 of coverage |
| Difference | 0.778 |
|
| Percentage of savings | 54% |

You will need to speak to your insurance agent and have a qualified engineer stamp the application, as required.
There are several requirements to qualify for these favorable insurance rates. You must read the details in full and then build as required to get the classification which qualifies for the lower insurance rates.
We strongly believe that with the use of quality materials, much of the losses incurred in recent years from hurricanes, tornadoes, floods, etc. can be greatly reduced or eliminated. As such, it is fair to those people who spend the extra money for quality building should receive the benefit of lower insurance claims.
(Note: VOBB can not provide any engineering, architectural or insurance services by law, as we are not registered to provide these professional services.}
