Construction Photos - Lafayette, LA - Stairs and Privacy Wall

This VOBB construction is built outside of an antique shop - very sturdy
(The owner is very pleased with these very sturdy stairs. There is no movement at all when the stairs are being used. This is solid construction on a cost effective basis.)

These are pictures of the building in-progess as its was being constructed. The VOBB blocks with the exposed VOBB grooves were filled with mortar and then the wall was finished with stucco. When completed, you are not be able to see any of the VOBB blocks.

This set of stairs is on the exterior of an antique (retail) shop. The building is located at 618 University Street (corner of University and Taft, about one block from Pinhook) in Lafayette, LA.

The solid construction using VOBB has been favorably reviewed by the parish-city building inspector, the architect and the owner, in addition to numerous other persons who have visited the location.

Please note that the "weak" mortar joint has been eliminated. (The mortar joint is the weakest part of a regular CMU wall as this is why block walls almost always break/crack at the mortar joint in a stair-step manner.)

VOBB block delivered on pallets - 112 of the 18" VOBB's per pallet

VOBB privacy wall - unfinished - This privacy wall was a total lenght of 87 feet long and six and one-half feet high. Gene Lail, building contractor, stated after the work was completed "If a man could not dry stack at least 1,000 VOBB per day, he would run them off." The work was completed without a mason.
