VOBB with tie-downs, hurricane straps, top plate
Some pictures to show the details of VOBB projects using tie-downs for the rafters, hurricane straps and top plate anchors
HURRICANE STRAPS
1 Hurricane straps are placed and ready to be nailed
2 Nailing down the truss and then installing the hurricane straps
3 An example of the hurricane tie-downs (We prefer the hurricane straps above. Please check with your local building inspectors.)
TOP PLATE FASTENERS
4 An 18-inch "L" bolt to anchor the top plate to the
VOBB block
5 The "L" bolt is put in the top VOBB blocks on a
vertical basis
7 An eighteen-inch L-bolt to hold the Cypress beams (See the nut and top of the L-bolt installed to the left. Look at the back where the top plate is and see the nut and top of the L-bolt. These L-bolts are post tensioned to hold the top plate which the trusses are then nailded to for a solid connection.)
8 The top plate is fastened to the VOBB with a large bolt.
9 Using hurricane straps to tie down the 2" x 4" to the top plate
Due
to numerous different soil conditions, building codes, etc.,
